Corn Milling Machine and Corn Peeling Machine

The machine tool program at the Four Rivers Career Center recently acquired a new Hurco 3-Axis Corn Milling machine, weighing approximately 6,900 pounds.
The machine was delivered Wednesday, Oct. 7.

It replaces an Okuma model weighing approximately 9,900 pounds. That machine was donated to the Four Rivers Career Center by Homeyer Tool in 2004 and kept in storage at Union Machinery until 2005 when the career center moved from the high school to its current location.
The old machine was sold to a buyer living in Kentucky. A carrier was on hand Oct. 7 to acquire the old machine and drive it to the buyer in Kentucky.

After sitting idle for a number of years since the township's seven-man paving crew was disbanded due to budget cuts, Brick's road milling machine fell into disrepair. This week, the township council unanimously voted to solicit bids to fix the machine so a more streamlined utility crew within the Public Works Department can tackle larger road repair projects in town.

“They're doing patches and pot holes,” Mayor John Ducey said of the utility crew's current assignments, but bringing the milling machine will allow for the township to complete larger road repairs in-house rather than hiring contractors. The township also has a patch machine, which can repair 10-foot by 20-foot sections of roadway all at once.

Down the hill in the nature center, kids could work on edible crafts. Younger kids got to make smiling corns, with peanut butter for lips and marshmallows for teeth. Older kids got to cut corns to turn them into swan shapes.

Children also worked with volunteers to make their own corn dumplings, all the way from using the Corn peeling machine to rolling out the dough. Each dumpling was carefully packed with instructions for baking when the children got home.

The farm in Bottrop-Kirchhellen has been cooperating for 16 years with the company Marcelissen states Eugen Borgmann. “We've looked at several different machines from different manufacturers. But the direct contact with the manufacturer is very important for us. We only need to call out to the Netherlands and we get help immediately,” states the owner. A technician in Holland can log in the system remotely and solves the problem or optimizes the settings according to the customer's wishes. “Our suggestions for improvements are implemented directly.” Theory and practice are combined. “And that really works and we are very satisfied. And if there is a problem then it gets resolved immediately.”
