Gran Canaria: Pedro Lasso Miranda: the king of beers

The captain of the "Diablillos Amarillos", arrived in El Pajar in 1968, is known for his passion in collecting beers from around the world, in addition to his love of football. Pedro Lasso Miranda (El Risco de San Nicolás, 1944) was captain of "Diablillos Amarillos" (devils yellow, so it is called the youth football team of UD La Palma, in 1962, led by Lasso, he won the national championship, NDT), and head of production in the factory Cementos Especiales for 35 years. Married, with three children and three grandchildren.
He arrived in El Pajar for the first time in 1968 on the old road waged, aboard a Volkswagen who led one of the directors of the factory.
He arrived at the Bay of Santa Agueda to work as chief workroom in factory Cementos Especiales, thanks to studies made in industrial engineering. A year earlier, at age 23, he had taken the irrevocable decision to leave the football, although very promising as a player in the team Aficionados affiliated with UD Las Palmas.
His great passion
After 5 years spent working as a workshop manager, Lasso became head of production in the same factory, until you reach retirement, ten years ago. Since then, he devoted himself almost exclusively to his passion as a collector in the world of beer, an adventure that began two decades ago.
Since I started with a pitcher, Pedro Lasso arrived to collect 4,615 original bottles, over 1,000 jars and 52 beer taps arrived at his small museum of 120 square meters, from every corner of the planet. In its place there is something for all tastes: treasures, items and everything that has to do with the beer mugs, caps, coasters, trays, glasses, paintings, key chains, hats, bottle openers, mirrors, flags, books ...
He himself admits that this collection exists and endures only because his dear wife rarely enters this space, which is home to 20 years of life dedicated to a traditional drink, like the German one, and with a lot of foam. It began to know and record the many brands of beer that are being born in the Canaries.
Apart from a small tachycardia, which must control because of age, the things that most worry you are the project of a possible opening of a museum and the very future of his collection, among the largest in Europe, when he will not be more able to deal with it. Each of his products are registered, dated and stored in old folders. He persists in not wanting to computerize its haven of glass and porcelain, full of all colors and sizes.
